Dear students and families

Corona Virus (Covid-19) – update 11.03.20

I’m sure you’re watching the news about the Coronavirus very carefully and are keen to know how we’re managing the situation as it develops.

As things stand, we continue to remain open for learning as usual.

We have had no confirmed cases of the virus among our students and staff and we are very vigilant in watching out for anyone who might be affected.

The Department for Education continues to advise us that the risk of infection is moderate and that we should continue to operate as normal. This means field trips and work experience are largely continuing as planned.

We have, however, reviewed some of our forthcoming trips abroad and are concerned that, if a student is travelling abroad, this may create a further risk for them, so we are checking whether these trips will go ahead as planned or be postponed or possibly cancelled. We’ll let you know of any changes and would not expect anyone to lose any money if we do have to change these plans.

We have arrangements in case we have to close part or all of our Colleges and we will let you know about these if necessary.

Right now, it is very important that you:

• Continue to observe strict hygiene and make sure you wash your hands very thoroughly and very regularly as guided by Public Health England

• Catch coughs and sneezes in a tissue or on your sleeve

• Avoid close contact with people who may be unwell

• Don’t touch your face with unwashed hands

• Check with NHS 11 if you have any of the following symptoms:

o Fever and tiredness

o Muscle pain

o Cough and/or breathing difficulties

If you have been abroad recently or have been in close contact with someone who has tested positive for the virus, please refer to the advice from Public Health England on what measures may be needed to protect you and others from the risk of the disease spreading:

You can find up to date advice for returning travellers via this link:

We will continue to stay very vigilant and aim to work closely with you to protect us all from infection. We will remain focused on your learning, but please let your course team know if you have any concerns.
